At the time the name made sense. It was a representation of where we were and sounded good. Since then we have seen many other businesses sprout up using “Great Plains” in their name.

If you have been following our blog, you know that we have been remodeling our studio over the past couple of weeks. Behind the scenes it has been much more then that. Becky and I have been working on re-branding, re-naming our studio. Effective June 1st, 2011 Great Plains Photography will become Chad Phillips Photography. Our studio will be in the same location staffed by the same crew.

Our studio makeover is almost complete. We have completely remodeled our viewing room, reception area and camera room. The new dressing room is really cool and huge! As soon as the final details are knocked out we will share some new images with you!

It looks like we are on the down hill slide now. I cannot believe the transformation of our studio space. We are so excited. I cannot wait until the new furniture shows up later next week. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by this past week to check out the mess. We have waited a long time for this upgrade and are more then happy to show it off!

I will be honest, I was not sure that I was going to be happy with the new selection of colors. I wanted guy colors. Browns, tans, rich brown leather. However, there comes a time when you know you are not right and need to trust in others. Becky and our Interior Decorator out voted me and went with a complete different color scheme. I have to say, I LOVE it! 

It feels really really ackward to have my camera room shutdown for a couple of weeks. We are not finished with it yet and it looks 100 times better then before. Funny how we can become so complacent with what we have that we cannot see the need for change. I am absolutely digging my new camera room and am anxious to be shooting again.
Our new dressing room is coming along. A new vanity and mirror will be going on the right and back in the left corner will be floor to ceiling mirrors. Some Senior girls take me seriously when I tell them “Bring your closet”. Now we have the room for all their clothes! This room is going to rock!
Mike Symes “The Handyman” is our contractor for this project. We have known him for a few years and knew right away that he was the man for our project. Hard worker that likes a great laugh.
Our new reception area already looks completely different. Installing the new floor gave this room a complete facelift. It will be a great room to welcome our clients with!

The studio is pretty much bare. Contractors should be in Monday to beautify all the rooms! All new furniture is set to be delivered. Paint is being ordered. Next gotta work on getting all our new display prints ready to display. Cannot wait to share the end result with everyone soon. Doesn’t look much like a Reception Room right now does it? Wait till you see the transformation. Anyway, I have had a number of people ask about the changes and wanted to share an update.

I cannot wait to see how our viewing room gets transformed.

This is one room I am REALLY excited about. Well it does not look like much right now. Next week this space will become an all new large dressing room.

As I write this it is Easter or Resurrection Sunday. We could not have chosen a more appropriate time to make all the changes. We are so excited and well maybe a bit nervous! Becky and I cannot wait to show off our new place! I will try to keep everyone updated with photos during the next couple of weeks of construction.

It has not necessarily been easy, but it has been great! I would not exchange the past three years for anything!
A couple of blogs that I follow have recently been talking about “change” and how good or scary it can be. I’m not talking business here, I am referring to the personal side.

Who you are does not really matter, does it? ANYONE can become rich or famous. Rich, famous or poor, are you happy?

What you are does not really matter , does it? You can choose/change any path or career. Does it make you happy?

Where you are does not matter, does it? Come on, with the Internet you can virtually be just about anywhere. Where you are now (physically ; ) ) are you happy?

What really does matter?

When! If you don’t make a change now, when will you? Are you happy? If not make the change now!

Why? Do I need to really type it out? Face it, we are all scared of change! Yet change can be good. Look at your life now. Are you happy? If you could change one thing what would it be? Now think how can you make that one change? What’s it gonna take? You might be surprised that the only thing that is stopping you from being happy or happier is…you, Really.

After reading Chase Jarvis’s blog and David DuChemin’s, it really brought a smile to my face. Although Change is scarey, it also brings opportunities and freedom. Take a moment to read their blog posts then sit back and think about a change in your life…

Erin, Justin and I headed out to photograph their engagement session earlier this week. I have not had that much fun photographing a couple in quite awhile. They were so laid back and willing to do pretty much anything. I also just happened to get a new toy (Nikon D7000) to start playing with video. What an awesome little camera. I had so much fun photographing and shooting a little video with it. Here is a video/slideshow I made of their engagement session. Enjoy..

Recently one of my fellow twitter’s and fabulous Photographer Scott Kelby (@ScottKelby for you tweetheads!) posted a message about the band Disciple. Disciple was going to be in his part of Florida and was hoping to surprise his son with tickets and a photo with the band.
He was trying to find a way get ahold of the band and ask their permission. I hooked up with my friend and most awesomest stage manager and youth pastor Dave Decker (@davedeckerjr) and emailed Scott the info he needed. Within a few hours of Scott’s request, he had the info and was in contact with Disciple’s tour manager.
